KRG’s Zionist-backed approach detrimental to region

TEHRAN, Oct. 16 (MNA) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani, emphasizing Iran's decisive support for integrated Iraq, said KRG’s approach is damaging to the region due to Israel’s behind-the-scenes plans.

Larijani met with Iraqi Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri, on the sidelines of the 137th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly on Sunday underway in St Petersburg from 14 to 18 October.

The two sides discussed the situation in Iraq and the region, saying the crises has made negotiations and talks between the two countries essential.

“The developments in Iraq are critical and we all are worried about the future of this country; Iraq was fighting with terrorists when the issue of KRG’s separatism was raised,” he noted, underlining Iran's support for the Iraqi Kurds in the struggle against terrorism. He said the Kurdish approach damages the security of Iraq and the region because Israel is behind this plot.

"The United States, though apparently opposes the referendum, but we are very confident it is playing,” Larijani asserted adding Iran unanimously and decisively supports Iraq.

During the meeting, Salim Al-Jubouri, also praised Iran's positions and support, saying "Iraq still needs advice and support from Iran.”

He called the referendum in Iraqi Kurdistan ‘not legitimate’.

Larijani also met with Turkish Parliament Speaker İsmail Kahraman on Sunday, when he said the establishment of joint economic committees between Iran and Turkey would pave the way for the development of commercial relations and the activation of the chambers of commerce.

Ali Larijani emphasized the expansion of the level of political and economic cooperation, saying that the economic relations between the two countries will expand and expand, reaching $ 3 billion a year.

He noted the situation in the region and said "Syria's negotiations are on the brink of progress, but it needs additional initiatives to be strengthened, and Russia has played an active and effective role in the talks.”

He emphasized the preservation of Iraqi territorial integrity and said that Iran fully supports Iraq's territorial integrity. In Iraq, when the issue of ISIL was over, another issue took place, and the Israelis are behind this crisis.

The head of the Turkish parliament also called for the strengthening and enhancement of the level of cooperation between the two countries and stressed the need for the development of parliamentary relations between two countries.

The head of the Turkish parliament referred to the Turkish President Erdogan's visit to Iran and stated that after the visit, the president ordered trade between the two countries based on the national currencies of the two countries.

He added that Turkey believes the referendum in Iraqi Kurdistan is not legitimate, and in this context, Iran-Turkey cooperation is vital for the region.
